There have been some reports about hackers defaced Google’s Palestine search page http://google.ps/ however, instead of an actual hack, this could possibly just be an instance of DNS cache poisoning where an ISP’s DNS servers are targeted and pointed to a different page than the one the user expects. The message that visitors got to see was as follows:
“uncle google we say hi from palestine to remember you that the country in google map not called israel. its called Palestine.”
If the page was hacked, it has been reclaimed by Google. We have reached out to the local office of Google and will update the story if we hear back from them or learn otherwise.
Update from Google:
For a short period, some users visiting google.ps were redirected to a different website; Google services for the google.ps domain were not hacked. We’ve been in contact with the organization responsible for managing this domain name and the issue should be resolved.
