The UAE based ecommerce website JadoPado has apparently been hit with an IP infringement notice, according to tweets published by the founder Omar Kassim.
Interesting. Just received my first Intellectual Property Infringement notice from our friends at DWTC. Fun times.

The notice was sent to them by DWTC (Dubai World Trade Centre) over the use of “GITEX” in their promotions. JadoPado has been running their “NOGITEX” sale during the same time as GITEX Shopper for the last couple of years offering, at times, better deals to online shoppers than what is available at the show. We reached out to Omar Kassim on what he thought about the situation:
We had absolutely no intention to infringe on anyone’s intellectual property. Our campaign was a bit of tongue-in-cheek to promote the use of e-commerce to customers visiting GITEX Shopper. We used a Twitter hashtag that we made up three years ago to try to achieve this.
It would have been nice if DWTC had reached out directly without resorting to a notice from their lawyers. We would have been more than happy to have a discussion and obliged in any way possible.
While we aren’t a participant at GITEX Shopper, we are an exhibitor at GITEX Technology Week and are seeking clarification as to how we can or cannot use the GITEX name in terms of promoting our presence, and by extension our business and the products that we sell.
JadoPado has changed their notGITEX sale to notSHOPPER sale following the notice. We’ll keep you updated if we hear anything else on this. Interestingly, the supermarket chain GEANT is also running a promotion for G-TEX. Wonder if they’ve got served.
Update: This just keeps on getting better- we have been informed by Omar that he cannot use the word notSHOPPER either.
