With the growth of connectivity in the UAE, it is no surprise to see many habits change. What were strictly offline activities such as paying you phone bills, catching up with friends or even ordering a pizza, are now just a click away. One area that has expanded rapidly online is one of my favourite things to do- shop. Now from the comfort of my couch I can scour the world for the best bargains and products and have them show up at my door with a few simple clicks.
Online shopping and ecommerce in general has been steadily growing in the region, and over the past few years we’ve seen a number of online shopping portals spring up in the region. What I’ve done today is taken five items that have been officially released in the UAE in the past few months and have compared prices at five of the most popular ecommerce websites in the UAE- JadoPado, Aido.com, Carrefour Online, ALSHOP.COM, and TeJuri.
Lets find out which one of them offers the best deals but before that, a quick note about the five products we’ve chosen. Keep in mind that we are a tech website so don’t expect to see the latest Calvin Klein perfume in that list.
1) HTC One 32GB LTE
The HTC One is an office favorite, and we’ve gone on long enough about how much we love it. It’s a great phone to get for anyone looking for a good Android phone, so it was our smartphone of choice for our online portals.
2) iPad mini 32GB WiFi, White
The tablet-lovers out there might crave for something slightly smaller than an average tablet, which is where the iPad mini comes in. All your favorite apps in a small and easy to carry form factor, the iPad mini has certainly seen some creative prices in the region
3) Lenovo Yoga laptop 13.3”
Laptop meets convertible tablet in the Lenovo Yoga, the device that’s 110% more flexible than I am. I was really surprised that the Lenovo Yoga was only available in two of our stores, considering it was launched and advertised here quite recently.
4) PlayStation Vita Wifi/3G
For quality gaming on the go, you can’t beat the PlayStation Vita. It’s compact enough to carry around in your bag and delivers a superb gaming experience for those moments when you’re on the Metro or need a quick break. Or you’re stuck in a really boring meeting.
5) Canon DSLR EOS 1100D
Lastly, we wanted a good DSLR camera to wrap up our list, and we’ve had our eyes on the Canon EOS 1100D for some time. And granted we’ll probably be drooling over it for a bit longer before one lands magically in our laps.
|HTC One 32GB LTE||AED 2399||AED 2479*||AED 2699||AED 2549||AED 2499|
|iPad Mini 32GB||AED 1299||AED 1249||AED 1699||AED 1499||AED 1699*|
|Lenovo Yoga 13.3"||N/A||AED 4,199||N/A||AED 3,999||N/A|
|PlayStation Vita Wifi/3G||AED 989||AED 1,099||AED 849*||AED 1,399*||N/A|
|Canon DSLR EOS 1100D (with EF-S 18-55mm Lens Kit)||AED 1,429||AED 2,299||AED 1,799||AED 1,799||AED 1,799*|
Some notes where you see an *
- ALSHOP is bundling the HTC One with a case and screen protector
- TeJURI has with Urbanears headphones bundled with the iPad Mini
- JadoPado gives with 4GB memory card with PlayStation Vita while Carrefour bundles the game Killzone Mercenary
- Carrefour and TeJURI are providing an 8GB SD + Case with the Canon EOS 1100D while ALSHOP bundles a 75-300III Lens
So as you can see, there are some products that have quite a difference in some retailers, while others are priced the same but bundle with different things on the side. As with shopping in real life, it pays to do a bit of looking around online to ensure you’re getting the best deal before hitting the Checkout button.
